History of Law

Course Description

Evidence of legal systems dates back to the earliest known civilizations.  One of the earliest written legal codes comes from the Babylonian Empire.  Over the centuries, law developed through practice and custom but wasn’t always formally proscribed.  One of the most important episodes in legal history was the signing of Magna Carta, when the English King was forced to legally acknowledge the rights of English citizens on a formal document.
